Capitola 8/9? anyone gonna be out there?

Was thinking of Carmel, but feeling a bit lazy and just want to get out and fish.  Thinking about hitting Capitola tomorrow for the hell of it.  Haven't been fishing in two weeks, broke my 10+ week streak of fishing every weekend, and need to start it again   

I'll be in the area, just not fishing.  I've got a soccer tournament in Santa Cruz this weekend.  I'll be thinking about you between games and wishin' I was a fishin'.  Leave some in there for the rest of us Al!

Well, I may not be the best person to follow for lings, only have one legal one on my belt, and two underlings this year.  But they have been caught around the kelp where I was going to start at in the morning probably.  Then head out to the mile buoy (if I can find it!) and try for the big flatties...

Guys, you might want to try for threshers!  From a few internet reports, the T-shark fishing is/was pretty good.

If the fishing is as good as some people are saying, I hope most fisherman have conservation in mind and release more than they keep.

Those threshers seem awful intriguing. What a fun sleigh ride they could provide. But I have this policy: I don't eat sharks if they don't eat me. Karma's a b***h.

I'm planning on launching from the SC harbor or Capitola. I usually launch around 9 AM. I'll give a yell on Ch 69.

The t-sharks were going wild the past couple weeks. I know of one angler who C+R 4-5 per day from the cement boat...for a whole week! I agree that we should consider practicing conservation with these little guys. After all, newborn threshers are 4ft long (live birth). So all of these sharks being caught are actually baby-babies. Of course, I'm on my high horse sitting behind a computer right now. It probably wouldn't be so easy to release one if I actually landed it on my yak. It would certainly be a tough choice.

If the the baitfish are as thick around Capitola and Santa Cruz as they say, then fishing for threshers, WSB, and halibut should continue to be good this weekend.  Check out this news clip which even shows a guy with a big WSB caught off the pier and SOT kayak on top of a car.  I'd go if I was free this weekend.  Hmmm... anyone free for Monday?

Threshers are a blast.  Some years ago, I hooked into a little 20 lb. that nearly blew up my reel.  That's when I first realized I needed better reels and upgraded drags.

There is a ton of bait around the wharf, I fished today and got a lot of anchovies and sardines before heading out to drift. No love on the butts this afternoon. I launched at New Brighton, haeaded straight for the wharf where the birds were diving on the bait. I then went out off the wharf to 35 ft of water and drifted back towards the cement ship.Wind laid down @ 4pm, real nice afternoon out there. Had one hit that scraped a sardine but didnt hook up. Off the water at 7. Might try again Sunday am. goodluck, Kimo

The ramp down to the floating dock is narrow, so it's a tight fit for a kayak with a wheeled cart. I barely squeezed a Tarpon 160 on there.

Yeah, mine barely fits   Got a good video on the way down last time, ill post it some day
