Alan and I have reservations at LK the whole week prior to Elk. It's looking like our plans are officially screwed due to the fire. Are there any get togethers up North prior to the tourny?. It sucks to have leave and yaks and no place to go. Any suggestions up North for an alternative of any kind?. You could always try Still Water Cove in P.B.... Andy

If you're looking for someplace remote with great rockfish fishing potential I'd consider the Lost Coast up in Humbodlt County. Maybe even try and hook up with Abking while you're up there.  Shelter Cove is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours North of Elk on Hwy 1,  but only an extra hour or so farther than Elk as you drive up on Hwy 101.

Thanks. I appreciate the leads. We would even settle for marginal rock fishing and no view.

You could also just work your way up the coast form Bodega Bay.  The fishing is better than marginal and the view is still decent... Fort Ross, Stillwater Cove (North) and several other locations on the Sonoma Coast as well as a few in Mendocino County offer camping near the water, rockfish fishing and Ab diving.  Spend a day or two at a spot and move on to the next until you get to Elk.  Lost of coast to be explored.

Is it possible to get camp sites along the Lost Coast?. I believe we will try your suggestion. It sounds like a great adventure. It would be way cool to hit 4 or 5 brand new spots and get to yakfish them. Thanks again.

Nah, you'll be fine. I seriously doubt the Basin Complex Fire in Big Sur will still be burning on July 28. The roads s/b opened up by then too. You can always camp south of Limekiln too, like down near San Simeon/Cambria if you still want to fish the Central Coast. Or, just camp in Monterey (at Veterans Memorial Campground) and fish the Peninsula, Stillwater, Carmel, etc.

Near ELK you have many options - too many for you to consider. There are a few beaches good for camping and fishing.
1) Mendo County: Caspar cove, Little river, Russian gulch, Van Damme State Park Beach
2) Sonoma County: Fort Ross,  Salt Point ,  Ocean Cove,  Stillwater Cove
