This info is copy+pasted from pierfishing.com. But it seems to pertain to us too. I am not very familiar with Bean Hollow myself, so I thought I'd post it here to garner some of your thoughts. This info is a result of the most-recent MLPA mtgs. I know we have some stakeholders on this site, so maybe you could help them by sharing your opinion.

A "Special Closure" is proposed for part of the beach. That means a 300-foot closure would be around the part of the beach that is used for a seal rookery, a closure that would be in effect from February through August. No foot traffic would be allowed in that area, no shore fishing, no kayak fishing, no disturbance of any type in that rocky intertidal area—period.

"The south Boundary does not affect the beach at all. The south boundary is a large rocky outcropping north of the sand beach (which is difficult to climb over from the south beach). That is a large landmark and can be seen on an overhead view. From the North, the line is south of the South Pescadero parking lot. That is the lot that is a small lot like a cul-de-sac with a toilet. The line is south of that lot leaving it open to tidepoolers and anglers. So, it shouldn't affect kayakers from launching at Bean Hollow . It does require them, if traveling north to stay 300 feet off the mean high tide to avoid the harbor seals. As I explained it won't have much impact on anglers since little angling is done in that area since most fishing is done north of there anyway since from the South Pescadero parking lot it is a long trek over rough rocks to get to that area. Any angling in that area would be right in and among the harbor seal rookery. And, the area is only closed from Feb. to Aug. Again, the rationale is that it is a sensitive harbor seal rookery, not just haul out area, and has been subjected to disturbance. It is one of the most accessible harbor seal viewing areas in California and any closure will have little impact on current uses."

The launch is unaffected, and the closure is a 300 foot buffer offshore north to the parking lot.  This is only in proposal 1-3, and I don't expect it to survive, as lots of others including ecos and educational groups were opposed to it.

Of all the important issues that need attention on the CA coast, why do people always focus on harbor seals and sealions to protect?  They are arguable some of the least threatened marine species off our coast.  How about a set aside for cuddly puppies too.

The frustrating part is that they are ALREADY protected.  This is just a redundant layer.
