South Bay waters... why only now!

How would you classify the water clarity?

NICE report fellas!  Calero is where I caught my first bass ever!  Been a few times since, and did fairly well!  Oddly even the jet ski's blowing by didn't even seem to change the bite!  Figure all that noise maybe makes them more agitated and willing to strike?  Haven't been on the water there, maybe try that some time this year!

I read reports about Calero and it is not recommended to fish on weekend. However, I heard it will get better.Just like what Splashdown is planning... call-in-sick!

Thanks FF. Water was cloudy. I'd say visibility is less than 2 feet.

I am planning this Monday. Where do you frequently go. You have a lot of nice local waters in SJ. I also heard that Lexington is good (could be an understatement)

What part of Calero were you fishing?  Looks like a little dam in the background of one of the shots but that would be deep-ish water, right?  You said 8-15 feet and if they're staging for pre-spawn, wouldn't they be at the end away from the dams?
 
I've heard Cherry Cove is good during spawn season.

Sounds like a fun time (much better than I did from shore there yesterday).

Way to keep it in "their" family!....always Xtra rewarding when hookin fish in less-than-desirable conditions!

I know this little place where a 10 pound plus female sits every year. I've heard of her being caught twice in the past two years out of the same spot. She is a pig!!! I got her sister a few years back. She was as long as my arm and skinny. If she was full she would have went 11 easy. Instead she was only 7 (real skinny!) She  was my largest till my 8 last year. Just like you, I got her mate first then she hit. I want that 10 now so I may have to go to bigger baits. Have you seen the pictures of the big one pulled from Shadow Cliffs a few weeks ago on a swim bait?


Calero is a great lake even though folks take a few out of there. Put some voltage to them and I bet you they'll glow A few more weeks and this place will bust wide open.

Anyone open for a "sick day?" I'm game. Lee we'll hook up real soon.

Thanks thwack. I was at the very NW end far from the dam. I did not have a map and don't know the exact location...but I'll find out.

I tried a few kinds (Senko, lizard, etc) and all seem to work. Even crankbaits that the pontooners were using worked as well. I did not try it because I lost all my tackle (flies, lures, plastics, crankbaits, everything!) on my last trip from the PI. I'm guessing jigs will be good in the next few weeks when it starts to warm up.

Hey Adam, I practice C&R with black bass in any water (contaminated or not) and try not to be a meat fisherman. I just love the sport and challenge of fishing. Don't get me wrong. There are a lot of good diner-plate species... and I keep a few.

Grandma hit like it was a tap...then pulled real hard. I was so worried when I hooked her because after landing the 3 grandkids I was so excited I forget to check my line.

I'll see if I can take off Monday then   Or at least join in the morning if possible.  Lexington, not sure how good it is... I know it went down to barely a puddle last I saw, and they are doing some sort of work on the spillway or something.  Caught my first lake fish there ever though, when I was like 12 yr old, got a croppie!  Proudly fed it to my cats for dinner 

But if your looking for bass, try Anderson!  Thats the place I have done the best in the south bay looking for bass!  And I suck at bass fishing   Did a run last year, first time on yak, and had a great time!

I'm guessing that's the spillway in the background of one of your pics early in this thread.  I headed the other way around the lake when I was shore-fishing on Sunday.  I've had luck there in the past off the points and the wind was blowing towards that direction but no bites there.  Only one I caught was near the boat launch (left side of the park's private launch which is on the left side of the two public docks at the boat ramp).
 
Hopefully, the winds will go away next week...
