In 91 when you started profesionally I was living deep in a forest sustaining myself and 4 others off the fish I caught everyday from my little wood canoe, no fish, no eat.

This is the kind of junk that kills me.  You can readily sustain yourself on newborn yellowtail, reef fish, suckers, bluegill...heck crickets and worms!!!  We were talking about kayak steelheading in this thread.  If you and your friends were dependant on steelhead you caught from a kayak you all would have STARVED.

Back to the topic...

Yes fish move through the whole river, what I am trying to convey is that there a certain parts you want to fish.  Holding water is the target.  Its where there is likely to be a group of fish, in a setting where you can make a good presentation, and actually actually land the fish.  Hooking a hot steelhead in fast water isn't likely going to result in a fish in the boat, but instead a naked spool.

There are certain places a drift boat can fish where we can't as we don't have an angler and a dedicated man on the sticks...we are a one man band.  The anchor is the tool to bridge that gap.  You would be better inspired to watch where the pram guys fish, they are constrained by the same issues.

We're talking about anchors in this thread not a particular fish species

In the great Northwoods it wasn't survivor man, we weren't eating suckers and perch. It was mostly largemouth smallmouth Bass, Walleye(the best eating fish in the world) and the famed Muskellunge. If you've read about muskies then you'll know they are every bit as challenging as WILD steelhead. We have the benefit of modern day fishing gear but back then I used natural river cane rods and carved hooks from antler and bone just like the native Ojibwa elders taught me. If you can't respect that theres no hope for you

I'll add that in 96 me and friend circumavigated lakes Superior and Michigan by kayak and for 6 months we lived off lake salmon, bass and trout. We rarely needed food supplies because mother earth always provided what we needed. You can drop me blindfolded in the deepest darkest wilderness and come back in a month to find me living like a king. Doesn't mean anything in your world or to society a large but it makes me different and undefinable by any standard.

You're killing me.  Feel free to continue guessing and groping, I don't want to spoil your vision quest.  Eventually you will get one, and we'll all celebrate.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of that which is elusive but attainable a never ending series of occasions for hope!
