Any of you Humboldt County guys going out for salmon? I just saw that the season started north of Shelter Cove.

Bill - Hawk and I (and many others up here and around Fort Bragg) have been intently studying the reports and the word out of Shelter Cove and Fort Bragg combined since the opener is that ONE SHAKER was caught and released around Bragg.  I spoke to the launch operator at the Cove twice, the second time being today, and the word is still NADA there - although there's only been a couple of decent days, swell-wise.  I'm planning to head down tomorrow afternoon, as the WX and wind are favorable.  I picked up two bags of chovies today and am looking forward to giving it a shot.  Someone's got to catch the first legal fish of '08...   :smt006

Hopefully tomorrow at this time I'm stinking like pink meat and giddily writing up the report of my success.   :smt007

Being an honorable sportsman is way more important than what you catch.

Sick 'Em, Eric!   :smt003  I'm really skeptical about salmon this year, so if you get to "stink like pink" today, I'll be pleasantly surprised.  But at least you're getting out on the water.  Looking forward to your report and any Humboldt salmon intel.

After seeing Ganoderma's post late last night, I went to every fishing website I could think of to see if somebody finally caught a salmon. No dice.
Although, it is definitely possible somebody has caught one (or 2) up there. Not everybody is hip to the whole internet-fishing-report-website deal. Especially up there LOL!

It would be AWESOME if Abking caught the first confirmed salmon of 2008 in CA.

It used to be all about radio fishing while on the water... now it's "puter fishin" sitting at home. :smt003

Salmon season is now open here in Mendo County too, North of Point Arena.  Whether there are salmon to catch is another matter. I just spoke with Dave/Pescadore and he informs me that even with the low count of salmon that the salmon usually don't come nearer to shore here until April or May, even on a good year.  That is, if we ever get a good salmon year again...:smt009  -Matt
