So, no yakking for me this weekend...the wife and kids want to go skiing, so we're heading up to Dodge Ridge for a couple of days.  I lucked out and got a cabin at Pinecrest, just 4 miles from the ski resort.  Then I started thinking...

"Hmmm...I wonder if she'll fall for the "This is my special ski pole" line?"

She might not even notice the reel attached!  Then I rememberer that she's a lot smarter than me, so I figured that I'd be better off asking her if she minded if I did a little fishing while we were at the lake.  No yak though...I think she'd shoot me if I tried bringing my Hobie on a family ski trip.  :smt003

So, does anyone have any info on winter trout at Pinecrest?  I've fished there during summer without much luck, but this will be the first time I've gone up during the snow season.  Tried looking for reports online, but there isn't anything recent available.  Thoughts?

Only thing I know about Pinecrest in winter is that they drain it way down. The pics I've seen of it looks like a mudhole surrounded by snow. Fishing in the summer is great for planter trout though.
I would suggest inflated crawlers on asliding sinker. Or just chuck kastmasters+spinners and work the shoreline.
Good luck,
PK

It's been years (decades) since I went to Pinecrest.  We had my buddies scannoe  at the time and didn't do to well for landing anything as I recall (was summertime and lake was full of PB)  It is beautiful up there though.  I hope you have some luck from the bank.

Not much water.  I would try castmasters over by the inlet, if there is an inlet this time of year. Or, try worms by the dam.

Good luck.

Don't bring the yak.....bring the state of the art 15' polyethylene snow tobogan  :smt002

I'll be there this weekend also, probably just a day trip but I'm trying to stretch it to an overnighter.  Dodge has discount tickets at savemart http://www.dodgeridge.com/drdeals.aspx.  Worth the effort if you're gonna do multiple days.

:smt005  I don't think she'd fall for the toboggan line, but it was a good idea nonetheless.  Thanks for the heads-up on the discount tickets though!  I checked the site but somehow missed that.

I guess I'll toss one of my little ultralite rigs and a small tackle box into the back of our CRV and go from there.  If access looks okay I might at least toss a few lures and see what happens.  Thanks for the info!

Usagi,

If you can sneak a float tube and there is water in the lake, trout fishing could be fun. When I lived up there we drifted flys while freezing in the float tubes. Well it really wan't that cold, but you could feel it.
