Went to Lake Sonoma again today. Hit Cherry Creek first and it was beautiful. Glassy flat and the water looked better then Tues. Tossed the fly and trolled a Rapala and a Needle fish all morning for scratch. Headed down to the main body of the lake and found totally different water conditions at the narrows. The water was badly stained and the visibility no more then 1 -2 feet. Made a couple of passes for nothing then headed back up to the creeks. Fished until 1600 and never had a touch all day. Had the lake to myself today except for one PB in Yorty at the end of my Yak ride. Overheard heard him yelling into his cell phone that he had caught two Steelies (boy that added salt to the wounds.)

The upper part of the lake is very fishable, not sure what the Dam area looks like. I think I might give Lake Sonoma a rest for awhile and concentrate on Sturgeon.

Below a couple of my fishing buddies.

Yeah, Man! - nice wildlife sightings!   :smt007  Too bad about no hookups, but you're putting your time in...  It'll happen.

Nice :smt007 Matt was the eagle in Cherry Creek?
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Good try! You'll get em next time. Hopefully on the fly!
Thats a very cool fishery.
Those steelies are very similar to the ones in Loch Lomond Res in Monterey Co.
Thanks for the report(s),
PK

Sorry for the threadjack, but Loch Lomond has Steelies?  This is news to me.  I've never heard or read that before.

I'm a little bit confused myself here, since Loch Lomond is in Santa Cruz, not Monterey.  Or am I missing something?  Never seen or heard of steelies there before, just the small amounts of planter trout the DFG drops in when they feel like it :(

Yes, I was lucky enough to see both of them. They were in different trees a couple  hundred yards apart. I observed them fishing the creek flying back and forth for about an hour, very cool.

HA! Sorry bout that! I was trying to do too many thing at one time! I meant to say Los Padres Reservoir (not Loch Lomond) D'OH!
Lake Sonoma, Los Padres, and Whale Rock (in SLO) have similar fisheries where you can fish for land-locked steelies. But, in Los Padres, they are still migrating to the ocean and back. Whereas, they face obstructions in the other two.

Thanks again for the great report Matt,
PK
