at the dive shop yesterday i was asking some students who just returned from the breakwater doing their checkout dives and they said there was an awful lot of "flounders" big and small there. i didnt get specifics but they said that there were so many. I dont know if the word flounder refers to halibut or sanddabs but if you are in the area paddling and fishing you might want to give it a whirl and drop a hook down.

just wanted to let you all know.

How about some underwater pics, GPS coordinates, and a weather report?   :smt001  I'll bet they meant perch!

well i wish i had a first person account, yesterday was reported to be a nit surgy and milky vis from the surge. other than the flounder things there was no report of anything else. i think the surge would keep the rf hiding. i might go saturday and i'll post if i do. if not there, definitely to carmel.

I was messing around at the jetty last Saturday and talked to a fellow whom said he caught 6 dabs a few days prior. I was just there to take my son for a walk in his stroller and try out my new baitcaster. Only got a few taps on the plastic I was flinging; most likely small B+Ys or greenling. The Quantum GW casts great though (on sale at cabelas). It looks, acts, and feels just like the Cabo.

Gimme a hollar if you come down here this wknd John.

From a historical perspective,,,,,,

my how time flies when you're having fun,,,,,,

anyway I did my first checkout dive at the breakwater in '85.

And I still remember the place was loaded with flounder type fish of some sort, most way too small to get a hook in their mouth, at the time I saw no fish big enough to catch on a hook n line so I figured they were some species that just didn't get very big, maybe they're baby dabs staying outta the deep water for their own good....
