Had my car broken into once. Had a bunch of burned CD's, the broken stereo deck with no face on it, my duffel bag with some foul smelling workout clothes and the sweetest pair of gold mirrored aviator glasses I wore as part of a halloween costume.  The crap that was taken was worthless but it was $140 to replace the broken window.  :smt013

My truck got swiped last month. I'm in the market now. Does anyone have one for sale? I live in Oakland.

In october alone, there were over 100 vehicles stolen in the upper Oakland areas.  Not including east, west or north at all.  There isn't alot to steal in those neighborhoods.  When I lived in Montclair stuff was stolen from my street all the time.  Right before I moved out, two hyphy thugs waited in the bushes by the road and jumped one of my roommates and pistol whipped him.  OPD informed me that this sort of thing is common this time of year.  Anyways...

Sorry for your misfortune there John, things could be worse I suppose, you could have been born with that guys fashion sense.

What about taking a left into the malibu dunes colony, just before the parking-lot-of thieves? do you hit a gate? if not, just parking on the street by those houses would be better than that lot.

it's even worse than zmudowski with regard to visibility.

there is some good surf fishing available from that spot, it's a shame to be afraid to use it.

I asked the ranger about putting a video camera there and she said that the coastal commision would not allow it because it would attract predatory birds. how lame is that?  Then I asked them about a camera from any of the 900 good sniper locations surrounding the parking lot  :smt002, perfect for shooting vermin, and then she said they have problems getting power in there but are considering something like that.

I think it's time to implement the rule "if you steal again (after a first warning) then you loose one finger on the chopping board"

Law enforcement is busy enough dealing with more serious crime - that's why small-time theivery is common....and if they do get caught, it's usually a slap on the hand :smt011 Cut a digit off and let's see if the criminal becomes a criminal again  :smt066

Sorry for the rant...had a car broken into - in the parking lot mall....efers stole my boom box and my roller blades (this was in the late 80's by the way :smt002). And then 2 years ago, some efer also tried to gain access to my Truck from the passenger side door while I was fishing in Stevens Creek in Cupertino...the efer never got in.....lucky for me.

My buddy (SF Police) gave me a tip = stop leaving stuff in you car / truck especially in plain sight (a trunk is good for that stuff - but unfortunately, most trucks don't have trunks) and if you plan to leave your car out in the public for a while, empty you glove box and leave it open. The glove box is the first thing they check when they break in. If they see that it's empty, the less likelyhood of an "inspection".....

J ....perhaps if you put a sticker on your truck = "I'm an unemployed surfer with an attitude" then maybe it will scare the would-be-theive away :smt002

I did the photo thing last winter in an isolated parking area when I was about to launch. Two kids were hanging out in a car looking suspicious, so I took a photo of my car and theirs together, then zoomed in and shot their license plate.  They saw me shooting the photos, which may have made them think twice. I tried not to make it look like I was targeting them, but it was obvious that they were in the photo, too.

sorry to hear that, when i dive places that look kind of weird sometimes i'll kind of walk around the lot and make eye contact with people before getting suited up and getting in the water. i was at garrapata and there were people in a a car looking mighty suspicious so i got my camera out and took some photos in the direction of their car. they took off fast after that.

another guy was at seaport in redwood city in a white truck looking weird by the ramp, i watched him as i unloaded and kept an eye on him as much as possible and he too took off.

i guess by letting people know you are observant and you did get a good look at them it makes them feel a little less secure about hanging around sometimes.

thats too bad you got busted into but glad you still had a nice day with the family: )

i have had my own car broken into about 3 times since getting it in 2005. i blame that on the area i live. im kind of used to it now.

I had a nearly new whole nice green 2003 Toyota Tacoma stolen last year.   I loved that truck a lot and suddenly she was gone.   Just some stoned punks in October.

I was not the same for about three months after that.   I had some bad revenge fantasies involving Officer Dangle and a stun gun embedded in the drivers' side seat wired to the ignition.

The problem I have now is that I often sit in my truck in parking lots and probably look rather suspicious while I study the rivers or the ocean before I decide whether/weather to go on the water.

So if you see me, I am in a Blue Toyota Tacoma, with an olive green Hobie Sport and I have gray hair, and I don't mind if you take pictures, as long as you stop to say hi and share some new ideas about kayak fishing.

Mooch:  Since your boombox was stolen then we will just have to kill and ask questions later.
