BTW, how was the surf landing?  :smt003

Fred mentioned something about a yard sale, which may explain the seaweed dangling from your rod.

Stuart

You guys must be referring to my advanced "rolling dismount" technique.  I use it when I want to give fishfinder, rod & reel one final saltwater rinse just before landing. :smt002

No one knows more about yard sales than my good buddy Stu.  I think he lost a GPS and/or digital camera surf landing at Elk one year. :smt040

Great stringer bro, thats gonna make one nice pile of meat! Are you going to smoke 'em?
BTW- I thought that a-hole ranger got transferred to the arctic circle? Good effective rangers dont act like that, he gives rangers a bad name, and that aint good for any one.

Nice catch Stuie... most people only see the red... you see the whole picture. Chucke nailed it man... He had a great limit of reds. I left the fish to find bigger fish. I'm pretty convinced that there aren't any big ones left down there. I went everywhere and lost many rigs to the thick kelp. Pretty frustrating and really slow. Oh well... what are you going to do. I caught a bunch of fish but let most of them go. No more RF for me this season... I'll look forward to pounding them again next year.

When I landed... I started to talk to a couple of guys from Santa Cruz that were on the beach. They were all jazzed when they saw my weak stringer of reds. I told them to check out Chucke's stringer instead because he slayed out there. He was still making his way back, so, I took the time to build up his image up to these guys. They're all stoked to see his fish and then... crash... They saw his fish come flying off of his yak and they were all stoked. They said that Chucke is the "Slayer" but he needs practice on the landings. What a bummer... I had him all built up like Superman and here he comes flying in... soaking wet... First thing out of Chuck's mouth was... "YARD SALE!" Ouch...

All in all... Great times... It was another great day on the water.

Freddie

I think the best way for me to guarantee a crash landing is to not stow my rods and gear.  It happens to me almost every time I'm in a rush to come in without stowing stuff away.  When I do take the time to stow gear nothing seems to happen.  I guess that's Murphy's Law in action.

Lucky for me, not much was given up at the yard sale -- just a little bit of glory and a homemade bonker.  I can easily make another one of those.  My floating orange fish grippers, x-tools pliers, and gaff washed up on shore.

Yup, I'm pretty darn good at losing small valuable objects upon landing.

Tell you what Chuck,
I promise to practice my surf landings, if you promise to practice your slap gaff technique, deal?   :smt002
