Lunched at San Carlos beach around 7:00a.m.. Paddled toward the red buoy and fished the last kelp bed to the buoy.
hooked above 30 Roch fish with red/yellow shrimp fly with squid strip and Bring back 7 fish around 2p.m.;
most of the catch were small. Any suggestion about this? Thanks!

Beautiful and calm day. The water near shore and kelp bed was clear; but the water appeared to be dark red. Was that red tide?

Nice haul.  Those are fairly good numbers for that area.  The small fish are probably because of all the fishing and diving pressure that area gets.  All of the large ones have probably already been taken.  Further west and south the fish quality and size improves.  I wish I could have made it out but I was too busy preparing for the Islander trip.

Man, you killed it compared to my trip on Saturday. Me and yakuza had the worst day of kayak rockfishing EVER! We had to retreat to the Monterey side of the peninsula because Carmel was gnarly. We paddled out towards the red bouy and fished around there then came back to the kelp beds...the fishing was so slow. I tried all the usualy treats: irons, grubs, scampis, shrimpflies tipped w/squid.
I'm not going to launch there again until next summer, when halibut are a possibility.
