Late but better than never...Got to the ramp at 7am and met Mark and Tsuri.  Great putting names and faces with logins.  After finally loading up my barge and being impressed with the missile-like Eddyline and Stealth that the fellas were paddling, Kevin comes down.  With a point, he says "head straight for the cove then towards the dam".  I'm trolling an orange wedding ring and pink hoochie; lots of drive-bys and one dink released.  I catch up with Mark and Tsuri and lots of action but no keeper for me yet.  Think my first keeper stayed on around 8am then was steady 'til my limit at 11am.

Around 9am, Mark gave me some tuna corn and his "Kokanee killer" purple hoochie and I headed north around the point to finish off my last two fish.  All told, 5 keepers, 9 released dinks and tons of spit outs and drive-bys.

Got to talk briefly with Kyle, see Kevin again and meet Mark and Michael.  Epic day.

Tsuri and Mark, I'll be in touch soon and hope to join you in the salt!
Yeah, well...the Dude abides.

Late post since my work week was extra busy.

I arrived around 730 Saturday morning and was lucky enough to spot a camp site and set my gear before heading to the water.
Once on the water I fiddled around looking for some tackle to get both my rods set up.

Trolling south along the east bank I had a few hits but nothing committed, and then I hit the white buoy. Wooooo was it on. As soon as I’d set up, my down rigger line was hit and my free line rod was hit too. By the time I got the first fish and down rigger weight onboard the other fish had slipped off my free line rod. Positioned myself to run through the same spot and I hooked up, this time when I got the fish and down rigger back in the yak my free line was dragging and I decided it might just be a one rod day.

The action was non stop and I was extremely glad to have a live well to keep the best fish. It actually became quite annoying setting up the down rigger ever few mins yet the bite was hot and I had a great time with an absurd amount of fish landed, I truly lost count after 15 or 16 and they just kept coming from 9am-2pm when hunger finally drove me off the water.

Sunday started off great and I was tossing any fish smaller than 12” back. With two good kokes in the live well I took some risks and lost my pink spinner that was so productive.
I tried a few different lures and not much produced. The best was a pink apex lure I used on my was back in, unfortunately it didn’t draw in the larger fish.

Sly Creek was a great body of water and I can’t wait to head back.

Side not if anyone heads through Ione (near Amador, Camanche, Pardee) check out HOOK’D tackle shop. I picked up a used custom G Loomis Kokanee rod and Calcutta 200B in great shape for $250. Was it the best price? Maybe not, but I was driving home from working in Pismo Beach the day before heading to Sly Creek and wouldn’t have made it home to my local outfitters in time. So it was kinda fate.

Whoo hoo double limits!

Not a lot of freshwater experience so I had to look it up, nice to see the possession limit is twice the daily bag limit. Makes me want to go camping!

Shoot I thought we had driven a long way....Pismo to Sly Creek the next day...dang. Did the bite slow down once the jet skis and boats started buzzing around?

Sometimes you get the good fate. Thanks for the report Kyle I learned some stuff.

Mark, Kyle, Dan, Michael, it was great fishing with you. Glad you all enjoyed yourselves.
Thinking of setting up another Open Invite over-nighter in a few weeks. Does Friday 20th/Saturday 21st or Saturday 21st/Sunday 22nd work better? The following weekend 27th, 28, 29 are good for me too.

Kevin.

Friday Saturday work better for me, although I have the 27th off. I might head up there on the 27th for a day trip. Let me check in with the fam if we want to camp up there on the 21 and 22 or 28 and 29. 28 is not as good for me because that is the opener for Quail season, and I might want to do that instead. We had such a good time camping up there early in the summer, we all want to go back and it just didn't work out.
