A few members are heading up to Sly Creek for Kokanee and Trout. Wasn't to sure about going on labor day weekend but I found out that the boat ramps are out of the water and there is a small drop off at the end of it. That means that the ski boats and lake lice will not be able to launch without some difficulty and risk. This bodes well for the Kayakers as we can team up and cart or carry the Yaks down. Reports from last week indicate that they are still on the chew and still relatively shallow (45') as compared to the other local lakes (100'+).
Planning to launch between 7-8am. Ch.69
Come get sum!

I’m trying to hit some kokes this weekend. Only know my way around bullards bar and Lake Tahoe for them and was just gonna accept I’d be forced off the lakes by 10 am.
I’ve never been to sly creek but love the idea of less traffic on the water.
Anyone gonna try to grab a first come campsite at Sly Creek?

I’m planning on hitting Stampede Friday AM. Maybe Saturday AM as well. Slight chance I could swing down to Sly.

That' a tough call. Most holidays, the place is packed. We did tried that on Fathers day weekend. Went up Friday afternoon and couldn't get a site. Just ended up spending the night on one of the side roads on the way in.
However, Since the ramp is out of the water, there may less campers.
We'll be fishing the east side across from the ramp and towards the dam. Give us a shout on Ch.69.

We'll be looking for you Joe. Reports from the Koke Tournament at Stampede a few weeks ago is that the fish are small this year, 9-12 inches.

I was getting some 9"ers last time I was there so moved and found some 13"-14" fish.

I couldn’t find any over 12” at Stamped. Caught 5 in 2 hrs. 10”-12”. I think the 10”chromes are next year’s fish.

Report- had a great time talking and fishing with everyone. Arrived at7:30 and was on the water by 8:00. The lake level had actually risen by two feet so launching was no problem. Marked a ton of fish out by the wake marker off the end of the ramp and had several drive-by hits but none wanted to commit. Headed over to the shaded east side. Got several in the net in a matter of minutes. Everyone was hooking up too. Decided to check out the east river arm. As soon as I get to the white buoy at the river entrance, it was on. Fish after fish. Got on the radio and told everyone to come join the fun. Strange though, the water temp was 71* at the surface so I wasn’t really expecting them to be back there. However, they were absolutely stacked in certain spots all the way to the back. Ended my day at 1:30 with 26 Kokanee. A few 9” dinks but most were 12-13”. Got 2 Rainbows 12 and 16” and 3 dink Ditch Pickles. All my fish came from 35-50’ at 1.3mph.      Kevin

Tsuri asked if we could carpool, and said great idea for the long trip. I suggested he come over in the afternoon on Friday to load up with some light instead of early morning darkness. We got his kayak on my car no problem with som soft pads I have and plenty of straps.

We were on the Road Saturday morning by 4am, and arrived at the launch by 7am. Dan showed up a few minutes later, and we on the water just as Kevin showed up. I was waiting close to the launch for Kevin, and Tsuri takes off across the lake on his own, and few minutes later he yells out that he has his first Kokanee in the cooler (turns out Kevin had told us where to start but I didn’t hear him).

So I start heading over, and start getting hits but they are not sticking. Finally I get a little guy, and it’s in the cooler. Then it’s constant bites, and fish until I have my limit of 5, and done at 9am. I decide to switch to trout gear, and troll following Kevin, and Tsuri for not a bite. Maybe I should have kept the Kokanee gear on like Kevin.

When we launched I wore my drysuit with just light underwear but it starting getting really hot. I realized I could take my towel and splash myself down..what a relief.

We got back and loaded up around 12, we had the car loaded up, and about ready to change, and Tsuri had disappeared. I looked around, and finally spotted him out swimming. I decided to join him wearing my dry suit. It felt so nice in the 90 degree heat. Next time I’ll wear swim shorts underneath.

What a fun day, and thank you Kevin for the invite, and tips along the way

Thanks Kevin for posting the hookup and thanks Mark for the ride, corn and maggots!

Given my sad performance at Bullards Bar last weekend and my general experiences chasing salmonoids I had my doubts that the day would be productive. Luckily Marks insistence on an early start and being in the company of seasoned Kokanee anglers paid off. Two hours into fishing I was worried I would have a limit too soon and would have to head home early.

Nice to paddled out at new spot. Trolled a chartreuse Macks lures flasher and smile blade wedding ring although seems like everything was getting bit. Overheard Kevin telling Dan (Stackboy) to head across the way so headed across the way.....fish just started jumping in the boat!

Went home with my first Kokanee a nice batch of 11 to 13 inch fish! :smt001

Other highlights included hearing the native American chants across the lake, soaking my feet in the cool clear water while fishing and the final swim as we were about to leave.

Dan let us know when your heading to the ocean and hopefully we can meet up again.
