Next time you go north look for some ab-diving campers and get their ab guts - it's a cab favorite.

I'm wanting a big cab for my AOTY entry, of course, and I plan to target them by fishing very shallow - like down to 2-3' deep...  I'll use ab guts, and I'll remember that often they will take the bait and just sit there.

Good luck, Jedi-Cab-Hunter!   :smt001

Adam, I've caught a few cabs and all were in shallow water, in crashing waves in the rocks, and all were caught on ab guts.  When they hit it was hard jerks or thumps.  For me, that tug is unmistakable.  I was not on a kayak.
Next time I'm out, I'm fishing shallow and casting ab guts toward shore into the rocks.

One day out of BH I caught 6 cabs on one of my homemade tinsel jigs.  30-70' deep.  They like structure.

That's how I caught my last one, way north of Bean, near the shore rocks.  This method is not for the faint of heart, though!  I would paddle close, cast, and when I got a hookup I'd immediately paddle to a safer spot to fight the fish, head swiveling the entire time...  it gets gnarly out there, and the surge pushes you into the danger zone really quickly.
