  And how many kayakers have had this happen to them?  In the 15 years of kayak fishing I have only seen one fin, and it was recently and far away while I had my SS on.  I don't think it's wrong to bring something that gives you peace of mind at all, go for it.  But you are envisioning something happening that doesn't really happen often enough to be concerned about it every day.  I'd get the SS first, as it has the most potential to deter that interaction in the first place.  The rare and unfortunate encounters where someone does get hit by a shark, still have been remarkably survivable.
