That is great info FisHunter!
Each time I head up to Bean it's an open question whether I'll go out or not.
Like the Big Sur thread mentioned, its better to be on the shore wishing you were out than to be out & wishing you were on the shore!

Don't just jump in without WATCHING IT FOR AT LEAST 20 MIN.  that's usually enough time to see the LARGER SETS that will sneak around and up
.

Amen to that! I've been guilty of doing just the opposite and nearly paid the price. (I posted under "This Happened to me" at Linda Mar). Know your limits - Bean Hollow has a steep beach break which can look tame for a few seconds and then turn the opposite in a blink of an eye. I would hate to hear about some one from NCKA getting hurt at the Hollow - for simply not knowing any better.

So far, we have ZERO members getting seriously hurt from surf big surf landings (and launches)...let's keep it that way.

Good luck and paddle safe!

Hi Guys, Slowmo and I might show up: had planned not to fish this weekend as we have been out a lot lately and really need to take a break and do some reel/boat/battery pack etc.. maintenance, but...... feel the need. So, when I get home if Walker is up for it we will load and be there (big white Ford van, 2 orange Tarpons). We are probably a 60/40 no show, but on the chance we show you will know who it is.

I've never been out with any of you guys in NCKA and think that this may be an opportunity to break in at the Bean...ie in the safety of other members.
I usually go South to Carmel or Big Sur where one has the options to fish and or dive [ spearfish]...or North for abalone. But...the Bay Bridge closure may make the North run really crowded this weekend.
Any reader knows, Bean Hollow is apparently not the place to spearfish so one has to be happy with the fishing only option.
So guys....how good a shot  is the Bean for a limit of rockfish and a cab/ling or two?
The moon is kinda full ya know...but the waters calm, right?

Well, as it turns out tomorrow is not the day for us. Darn!! I have to harvest in the garden and make my famous spaghetti sauce, well famous throughout the family anyway. Not a bad thing, I really look forward all summer to this. My fishing desire is causing amnesia I guess.
On another note: on the way home I stopped at Fisherman's Warehouse and picked up a few things ($197). Got home and told Gloria that I had purchased a new pole, only to be told that she already knew because she was downloading visa info and had been seeing in real time my journey home via the purchases I was making. Hmmm... honesty paid off this time, but I think I might have to switch to cash.

Calm is never a guarantee. The ocean is by nature a dynamic environment, which is one aspect of why I like it so much, but never take conditions for granted. Posts before this one in the thread speak to the issue very well. Good luck and hope on another day we meet up.

Craig - Did you go Sunday? If so, how was the condition (wind, swell, fog)? If not, are you going Monday instead?
