I catch a lot of coppers around Monterey and Carmel. Here is a day from this past season -- only two of the bunch are gophers. Like crash said, the coppers can be highly variable.

But do coppers poop all over the place when you land them like gophers?

I hate to waste a fish-point on a gopher, but one of these days I'm launching an all-out gopher mission to fill my limit of 10. Poop will fly. A lot of poop.

I’m not sure its always poop ‘coming’ out of those stupid gophers…sometimes its other stuff. Hahaha
Also, have you ever noticed how gophers always cough up those tiny brittle starfish?
One easy way to differentiate btwn gophers & coppers…if its over 16” long, its not a gopher.

Pretty amazing how well those little boogers fight. As i am reeling up i am thinking some kind of nice rockfish. Nope, a feisty gopher.
