I emailed Ca Fish/Wildlife about the same time as posting the original post in the us thread. I finally received a response.

Hello:

Thanks for the e-mail.  Yes, you are correct, the limit is 10 and yes, that includes crabs that you may have processed or are in your freezer.  The only comment I would make is that it IS legal to give your catch away to someone else, let’s say, a family member.  So as an example, you could take 10 crabs, take them home and then “give” them to your wife. You would then be free to take 10 more.  You and your wife could legally have 20 crabs in possession.

So, instead of saying you can have a double limit in possession, just not caught the same day, that it's fine to use a loop hole to do the same thing huh.  :smt005

I think it's best to take what you need, not necessarily what's legal, but to each their own. I'm never one to impose what i think you should do. Do what makes you happy while staying in the law.

I've been through the whole "Family and Friends" thing, and at some point you just get a bunch of "Family and Friends" you never see, unless they hear you got something to gift them.  At some point it becomes an "Expectation" vs "Appreciation" and i just stop it from there.

My general rule of thumb is that I'll gift anyone who fish/crab if you skunk for the day, but give it a good effort. haha some may call it TLA's welfare to work policy. You put in the work, you should deserve to come home with something. IMHO

There is something to be said for common sense conservation.  Just my 2cents.  :smt001

I agree with lost.  If I find salmon in my freezer when the next season starts it really bugs me.  It means I over harvested. Same with any other game with the exception of pigs, non indigenous.

I agree take only what you need. We have become a society where success is measured in limits instead of experiences.
