I didn't mean to derail this post.  From what I've seen from MBNMS, they are more moderate, have a much wider scope than just fisheries issues, and overall I have a more positive impression on them.  They tend to work within the system vs around the system.  Just my 2 cents ...

Keep up the good work Adam. And let me know if I can help in any way.

If I have learned anything this year(questionable), is that anything to the far left and to the far right is not where I want to be.  I definitely have gained a better appreciation of each sides views and the lengths and means each side will use to make their point.  I have also seen how it tears communities apart and empowers each side of the spectrum to go to the extremes.

Yes, stand up for what you believe and argue for what you believe, but know that at the end of the day you may or may not win your argument and life will go on.

The bear hunting legislation was pulled when the community that was actually going to be impacted spoke up and their voices were heard.  Hopefully the same will apply to the crabbing legislation.

The voices on an advisory council are important and I respect anyone that voluntarily takes the position and sticks with it.

Adam, from everything I see on this thread and your other posts, you are the right guy to be on the board as your passion and understanding of the area will be of great benefit.

I think it would be helpful to quantify the kayak fishing user group. Kayakers are just a subset of users in the recreational fishing category. But it’s already popular and seems to be growing exponentially. How many kayak anglers are using the MBNMS for recreation? (tens of thousands annually) What type of economic impact do those users have? (Millions of dollars) What’s the percentage of recreational harvest by kayak anglers in the sanctuary? (Low, especially when compared to effort hours of rec anglers on boats)

I assume you're the Rec Fishing Alternate behind Jose Montes.  He's a good man and avid fisherman.  You will do well to coordinate with him. He replaced a clueless freshwater fly fisherman who was a weathervane.
