Fished Coral St. in near perfect conditions this morning for about 4 hours.  Pickings were slow but the wind finally died down so I stayed out longer than I should have.  I had three under cabazon a small olive and a gopher all released for the first 3 hours.  I tried shallow and deep, in thick kelp, next to kelp, over rocks, over sand, swimbaits, irons, squid.  It was just tough to get good bites today.  Finally in the last hour or so, I got two nice blue rockfish 13-14 inch and I called it quits on an 18-inch cabazon.  Finally a legal one after many small ones.  No photos today as my camera was home next to the computer.  I also had left my paddling gloves on the drying rack  :smt009 .  I met a nice local, Sal, whose family is an old Monterey commercial fishing family.  Sal landed as I was leaving and only had one medium blue so I gave him one of mine to round out his dinner.  Nice to meet you Sal if you read this.  Foggy and overcast but finally a relatively windless day.  I did not loose any tackle and fished all over the place.  Just never found the big score but also did not paddle too far from the launch.

I will give the big blue to our new neighbors and the cabazon is going in some bouillabaisse along with some clams and scallops for dinner.

Thanks for the report Etienne.  Glad you finally picked up the legal cabbie, and could spread some wealth too..  I had one of those trips this year, but drove over an hour each way for it.  Lucky you're close to home there!  Sounds like you have an awesome dinner lined up.

See ya at MBK derby, if you're fishing!

Malheureusement, no-one wants my RTM Tempo :(   (well, except 2 offers at $500 - bah).

Bon appetit!

It seems bites have changed in 2 days. Friday's fishing was hot, well, at Limekiln. Your dinner will be good.

That is a big blue (14")! Don't think I have ever seen one that big. Cabbies are better eating than lings and verms, IMO.

One can paddle out to the area off coral St from the MBKT launch.  But, it will limit your fishing time.   Maybe 40 minutes to paddle there from Del Monte Beach?

Tnx SB!.....are the rules for the MBKT posted?    ALL MUST launch from DM beach?

Sshhhhhh...don't tell anybody...but...I asked about "launching requirements" for the tourney when I signed up yesterday and was told that you are not 'required' to launch from the beach at MBK.
So, you would be able to launch somewhere else, however, your fishing time will then be limited...based on how far you drive to launch. And don't forget to factor in loading/unloading time too.
Hmmmm...this has made me possibly reconsider my "Plan of Attack." Hmmmmm...
