hi folks, i just got done checking out the dfg site and was unable to find the regs for south lake tahoe and trout fishing. tomorrow we are headed up there just for the day to do the hike and want to do some trout fishing.

is anyone familiar with the rules of this area?

its still the california side i know but was unable to locate any specifics  :smt010 :smt010

The "Eagle Lake" and South Tahoe are pretty far away from each other. So you must be referring to a different Eagle Lake. Although I am not familiar with the one you are referencing, I bet its open to fishing. And if it isn't listed in the Special Regs, then it is probably legal to use bait and keep a limit of trout.

I would recommend driving out to the East Fork of the Carson River. Then park at Hangman's bridge (just past Markleeville) and hike the trail that parallels the river. There is some really good fishing along there but it is a 'barbless artificials only' area. Above the bridge is stocked full of planters and big holdovers and you can use powerbait or whatever you want…just not as "pretty." One of my favorite spots is upriver near the free campground where Wolf Creek enters the River. Its "pretty" up there.

thanks for the info! this eagle lake is the small lake a mile from emerald bay in south tahoe. just at the top of eagle fall trail.

i'll let you know how it goes!
