I have up for sale my 2016 Jackson Kraken 15.5 Elite.  It is like brand new.  It has only been in the water 3 times. I am a freediver, so most of the gear that comes with the setup has not been used. I haven't done much diving in the last couple of years.    It has not been used for pole fishing.  The only thing used was the self inflating lumbar support, the seat and the red transport flag.   The kayak was washed after every use and then wiped down with 303 protectant.  This setup new was $1900, plus tax and shipping.  The sale comes with everything it came with when I bought it, all shown in the pictures.  I am not desperate to sell.  So, no low-ballers please.  This kayak is now very hard to find used, as everyone who has one doesn't want to get rid of it, mainly because they are such an awesome kayak.  Why am I selling it then?  Well, as a fishing boat, ocean or lake, it is great.  But as I use this kayak for freediving, I get in and out of the kayak a lot and it is a bit heavy for what I do.   In my opinion, this is the best pole fishing kayak made.  It's just not as great for freediving.  There are other kayaks better suited for freediving.  I am asking $1200 obo.  if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 559-288-7005.  Ask for Bryan.  There will be a lot of pictures so you can see as much detail as possible.  Kraken is SOLD

I'm curious what yak you think is the best dive yak. Also, I'd LOVE to own this yak but you're right, the lighter weight is ideal for us divers taking them down big sur cliffs and such. My Cobra is super light compared to most.

I'm curious what yak you think is the best dive yak.

That is a tough question.  A lot depends on an individuals skill in using a kayak, their weight, and height.  For most in freediving, the consensus is the Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro.  I owned one.  I can tell you that it is a great kayak, but not for a guy who is over 185lbs or over 6" tall.  When you have these factors, the heavier or taller you are, the scupper becomes more difficult to use.  It becomes less stable.  It is one of the lightest kayaks and you can find them on-line for $500, down as low as $100.   I would suggest this kayak for all beginners.  It's cheap and durable.  Also, if you have little to no experience with kayaks, this kayak will be the one to learn on.  Once you get good or even master this kayak, every other kayak will be easy to work with.

One of the things I do to all of my kayaks, is to modify them.  My Kraken is the only one I did not modify, with the exception of the handles.  The fixed handles suck when carrying the kayak over a distance.  My modifications have been posted all over Spearboard.

Some of the Cobra kayaks are good, but they are wide (32" to 34"), which makes them sluggish.  But they are stable.  They hold their value pretty well.  So, you will pay $$ for a used one.  A couple of my buddy's have owned them and they sold them for their sluggishness.

I owned a 2009 Wilderness Systems Tarpon 160 for several years.  It was a great kayak.  Very fast and stable.  It tracked well, but I should have put a rudder on it to make it better.  It was on the heavier side at 72# without accessories added on.  Everyone I know that has a Tarpon or had one has said that it is a great kayak.

Hobie's are great, but not worth the money, unless you are only going to be fishing out of it.

Kayaks that are designed for fishing are not the best kayaks for freediving.  That are designed wider for stability and have too many accessories and gear that are unnecessary for divers, who get in and out frequently.

if I were to suggest a good kayak for freediving, I would tell that person to make sure the kayak is a minimum of 13' to 16' (14' - 15' is ideal) and 28" to 31" wide.  These lengths and widths will track the best, yet will have the most consistent stability.  There are a lot of good kayaks out there, new and used.  If you have some skill with kayaks, the best thing to do is try the one you like before you buy it, if you can.  I don't think there is a "best" kayak.  But I do believe that there is the right kayak for each individual person.  So, there is no perfect kayak.

Several of my buddy's have owned the Ocean Kayak Trident/Prowler.  They have really liked it.  it has all the features I like on a kayak.  I plan on getting one to replace the Kraken I have for sale.  The Prowler has the features as the Kraken, but just not as heavy.  Got to love that center crotch hatch for fins and guns.

I love my Kraken.
And it seems to be ok for freediving too...considering its the only yak BigJim has used for the last ~3 years?
