Saturday morning was clear with a stiff off shore wind.  I had no takers to join me so when I saw the easy launch at CRSB I went for it.  The west side was an easy launch right behind the rocks but anywhere east of that was a sure shore dump.  I first fished for halibut drifting with the wind mostly parallel to the kelp bed but no love.  Upon reaching the Kelp I dropped down a diamond bar and pulled up a few blues.  I kept fishing hoping for a ling or a butt with little (about a 9-inch unling) love.  I continued top pull up a few rockfish and then the wind changed 180 degrees so I started drifting the other way.  I ended up at the first few rock outcrops on the east end of the beach.  Once I was over the kelp and rocks, I switched to a plastic squid rig and was nailed by a what I was hoping was a ling but ended up a double with a large china and a large kelp RF.  I kept the kelp RF and jigged up one more.  The wind really picked up so I dragged my last squid over the sand and back to the launch.  I watched one pair of divers setting up a tandem for launch from the middle of the beach and while I never saw them try to launch I did see them retreat as I as paddling back to my launch.

I ended up with six RF, 4 blues and two kelps.  I was off the water by about 11.  Then I sold t-shirts at the Blues Festival all evening (volunteer work but lots of fun and good tunes).  No other kayakers but I did see a puffin.  I thought it was out of place but did not realize what I had seen until I got home and saw the paper where it showed a photo and explained that they had been seen recently in the area (unusual).  I have a few photos I will post when I get home later today.

Someone spotted a couple of 'em at the HMB Derby - I think they were spotted near the Moss Beach Distillery.

Great report, Etienne!
Still no halis caught by yakkers there, huh? Chris tried last week after I sent him pics of the spearos' bounty. (I think a couple are members of NCKA too)
Wish I could've joined you but we're now 2 days past Carrie's due date...so any minute now.
Hope to get out there with you later this summer! Until then, I'll be fishing vicariously through your reports...so take some pics next time! LOL!

Thanks,
PK

That (CRSBswellspot) is not a recommended location for inexperienced although, the launch and landing  at the far west end just had ankle slappers once you were behind the rocks (see the last photo).  Last Saturday was a rough day for fishing in general with a steady wind most of the time.  I lost several rigs that day.  There are many options around Monterey so we can usually find an easy launch somewhere depending on the wind and swell but once outside you do need to be ready for whatever the prevailing conditions are.  That is probably why I was the only one out that day.

Whew!!   O.K. I'am still down to go out wit cha, since you broke it down like that!  ankle slappers are good!

I see you might be going out this sun (if no sat)
the winds are now and forcasted to blow hard through out the week and weekend up here,  how bout' down there?  has it started up yet?   the inlands are hot and it just pulls the dam wind for days through and over the bay waters and eastside shore areas. :smt010

To be perfectly honest, I do not pay much attention to the forecasts.  I kind of listen to the tone of other posts but mostly I rely on the fact that I live close and the winds is almost always much less early.  I used to be a sailor and never started before 11 for the same reason.  A large component of the wind around here including Monterey Bay and even more so in San Francisco Bay is the "seabreeze" that is generated by uneven heating of the land and ocean.  The physics of air pressure and temperature and topography along with air density creates seabreeze (the afternoon wind we experience around here) as the warm air over land rises and draws in cooler denser heavier air from the ocean.  The effect is magnified by the Golden Gate and central valley effects and similar things happen over mountain ranges (Tahoe).  So I rely on calm in the AM and find a good spot depending on swell direction to launch.  In general I find the wind at Monterey to be much lighter than in the San Francisco Bay Area.  I usually plan to be off the water soon after the wind starts, by noon or so if you start at 6 give plenty of time and my arms are usually tired from reeling in fish by then  :smt003 .

The halibuts were gone. I was there on Saturday way early in the morning. Dove for over an hour but saw nothing. There were at least 3 parties of free divers, none of us saw any halibut.
