I did run into the guy wearing the shorts, etc.  He was tossing crab nets and had just started when we met...  Nice guy, but yeah he wasn't dressed for the ocean.  He was crabbing in close to the South jetty and was not having much luck.

I launch North of the actual marina... take my time gearing up early in the a.m., and don't have to deal w/ boats or any kind of rush to get in/out of the water.  As with most of us...  I just want to relax and hopefully catch something for dinner.  :smt001
We're gonna need a bigger boat!

I saw Nudling’s comment and it made me wonder: What is the correct launchramp protocol there?

Nudling's a dick...he doesn't own the boat ramp!   :smt005 :smt005

I agree  :smt005

I pulled into the numba waan lane and noticed an inflatable on the inside lane next to the sea wall. Tie my boat up near the waters edge and noticed a truck backing up and thinking that this isn't really happening lol. I asked him if he was going to be quick because I needed to take the boat out and he said that he was here first. Didn't bother to get my blood pressure up or try to explain common boating/kayaking practices to him since he seemed clueless and angry. He offered to help move my boat to the #2 lane but that would involve moving the bumpers, etc - plus, that's not how boat ramp behavior/protocol usually works.  I was about to reach harbor patrol and have them deal with it and check if he paid for parking (yeah, ain't gonna get mad over this so let them deal w/it). He stormed off and slammed his door as he gassed it to one of the 4 other closed lanes. I'm sure he'll do it again and some angry boater will throw his gear in the water.  :smt044

I use to use boat ramps all the time when I fished in my AI. Put in and take out as fast as possible to get the line moving instead of treating it like a loading zone.

Aaron, I was surprised that you said that he was a nice guy since he was anything but that when I saw him.

He must’ve got angry when he didn’t catch any crabs?!?!?!  :smt013

We had a friendly enough conversation...  :smt008

Can’t say I’d vouch for him after hearing about your encounter!...  :smt002

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that you were vouching for him and I can see how having a bad day on the water can carry over.

I shoulda offered some of my red crabs for him to politely move his truck (just the male ones since I can tell he prefers those over the egg laden females).

That boat ramp has some strange characters -- or should just say that all of them do. Ran into these guys who bypassed the line before dawn and lined up their boat for the #2 lane. They got out to setup and I had to semi-parallel park between their boat and another boat in a closed lane. Their excuse was that they couldn't stop behind the other boats because their was a stop sign there.  They were actually serious about it and didn't know any better.
