Hi Yakers:

I need a heads up on where to Launch and where to avoid. I heard the MBA
is becoming quite Anal about Kayak Fisherpersons.
                                                                                 Thanks

MBA?
I'm guessing you mean MBK (Monterey Bay Kayaks). They will allow you to park in their lot and launch from the beach as long as you pay the fee to park there. Not a problem.

I wouldn't suggest launching there though. Mainly because the fishing sucks and its often crowded with other kayakers and boats. And you have to pay to park. The only reason to launch there is if its your first time in the ocean or if you want to paddle north for halibut.
I don't know...maybe I'm biased. But I would send you to Otter Cove or Coral St or Stillwater Cove or Monastery beach instead.

If you get there early enough, you can park on Del Monte Blvd by 'Windows on the Bay' (just before MBK) for free. Although a slightly longer haul, its easy if you have Wheelez.

Good luck,
PK

I think he means the monterey bay aquarium.  Just make sure you aren't fishing in an area that isn't an MPA and if someone hassles you - suggest they call 1800 cal-tip.  ;)
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

The only area currently closed around here is the area adjacent to Hopkins Marine Lab and the area around point Lobos beyond Moss Cove.  The MPAs are not yet in force.  If you want to fish near the Aquarium, that is very close to Hopkins so you should study the lines carefully and make sure you do not cross them.  The limits of the reserver are listed in the regs and I believe you can look up maps on line of the DFG web site.  If you want to launch near the aquarium, I suggest Lovers point as an easy launch but you can not park in the lot for more than two hours so move your car after unloading.  You can also launch from one beach along Cannery Row but I do not know why you would want to with all of the other great places to fish around here with better parking access and fishing.  The other spots Sin Coast mentioned plus the harbor either ramp or even San Carlos Beach park, but you will have to contend with divers there especially if you do not get an early start.  MBK is not so bad either the others are just better.  That 39-incher last week makes me want to go there more.
