I'd like to know more about the cloudy green water. what causes that?

big swell?

allen post that info up before I go fishing next time, not after...  :smt002

J

Hey J--- Yeah, I think it's the swell or a week or so of swell just roils and lifts all the sand into the water making the reflective light color.

As far as reports.....I know you speak in jest, but seriously, I covered that in the Sentinel fishing report which is available online as well as on the radio show where we had Kenny Stagnaro himself in the studio who gave us the lowdown of rockfishing early season.....just a couple more resources to use if you want to.

Tell the truth, I'm really thinking a lot about secret spot xj-15 for a family outing soon.  My wife actually says she want to go kayaking with me, which is unheard of.

(She is a monster kayaker, tour guide, etc, but prefers sit-ins and has to keep moving.  I on the other hand can't imagine paddling anywhere without a fishing rod, and prefer to drift quietly while pullling up dozens of fish)

The proposed solution is to put her and my daughter in single kayaks, while my son and I paddle the tandem with our trout rods.  I was thinking XJ-15 might be a good spot with a chance at actually catching something (because I am the world's worst trout fisherman)

Allen, so you did actually tell me before I went! doh!

man, fishing is hard sometimes,  :smt010
I did almost everything right except check your reports...
well, now I know! thanks!  :smt001

XJ-15 is not exactly a destination spot,  :smt009.  It is non-threatening because it is small and close, that's why I go. Not worth driving over 17 for tho. If I was you, I would go to pinto, san justo(?), lomand or something like that. an easy drive is key to the family fun I think.

btw, I think the most care-free trout trolling setup for DFG trout in small reservoirs that I have tried is a tiny lure/bait (think 1.5" grub) threaded on a single barbless hook on 3lb test leader behind some seps micro flashers tied to 4lb to 10lb mainline. it's the patented wife and kids XJ-15 system,  :smt004. economical, effective, hassle-free. If you could slow your wife down to to under 2.5mph, and/or get her to paddle crooked, she'd probably outfish you with this setup,  :smt008.

I am going home and tying some of those up right now.  Thanks for the tips from the master.  Simple is always best for me.

I don't know, though, xj-15 seems to have more reports of good catches than the Loch.  though the Loch just got 4000 Mt Lassen variety rainbow planted last Wednesday......hmmmmm....

Loch Lomond trout seem to prefer simple offerings. I usually score a limit of planters by trolling a 1/8oz Lil Cleo or Kastmaster or Krocadile. The other rod will have a 1/8oz Roostertail or Panther Martin spinner. Topline one (w/little or no weight) and run the other one slightly deeper (about 2 feet behind a bullet-shaped sliding sinker above a red bead and barrel swivel). Although, I have to admit, most of my experience there is via rental boat.
Pinto Lake isn't a very scenic destination. Yes, there are trout...but...not the ideal family-outing type of lake. I would suggest xj-15 or Coyote Lake before Pinto. San Justo is nice when the trout are biting but it often gets windy, very windy.

Sorry for the total thread-jack. And good luck tomorrow guys!

man, I hope I am not the master of xj-15 and 12" trout,  :smt010. well it was pretty fun.
don't forget the 6" crappie. I got a few of those too,  :smt044.

the bare roostertail (1/16th) or gold kastmaster (1/12th) with a #10 single crimped siwash
for safety worked for us too. good with a salmon egg on there...

the flasher and grub combo is like a stretched roostertail basically. you can put an egg or
bullet ahead of the flashers or crimp shot to the flashers wire. attractant on the blades...

I like the idea of the fish finding your offering but not being scared to hit the terminal lure.
so flashers plus tiny lure is what I like for a 12" trout so far.

a big split shot crimped to a snap swivel makes a nice rudder/trolling weight too.

allen, use your gps, go 1.5mph, paddle like a spaz, stopping, starting, paddling at shore, away
from shore, in circles, etc. I think that is me and the kids secret!  :smt005.
