I'll be camping Friday through Sunday at Limekiln this wknd with a couple friends. There will be a few of us kayak fishing.

Anyone interested in meeting up for some fishing is welcome to join us. Unfortunately, it seems like there might not be room for extra campers (well, maybe one or two) unless you're willing to camp in your car or try for a "first-come first-serve" site at Kirk Creek (about 6 miles south but closer to the Mill Creek launch).

Plan A is to launch at Limekiln on Saturday. Plan B is to launch at Mill Creek if waves are too big at Limekiln. We'll be fishing on Sunday morning as well.

I'll be driving a gold Chevy and paddling a blue Drifter. Other kayaks will be a red tandem and Chris' (MByakker) green Prowler...I think its green?

Got my 6oz leadheads and 10 inch swimbaits ready for some FAT lings!

I am thinking about heading that way but the marine forecast looks pretty brutal. NW 20-30 kt and 8-10 swell forecast for Saturday.

Given the above forecast, someplace that will be out of the main swell impact and hopefully at least slightly wind protected as well.

Yeah, I knew that it was risky to make reservations months in advance...but its a risk I'm willing to take.
The current forecast for Pidgeon Pt to Piedras Blancas from NOAA is:
.FRI...NW WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 3 TO 5 FT. NW SWELL 8 TO 10 FT AND S 3 FT. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.
.SAT...NW WINDS 15 TO 30 KT. WIND WAVES 3 TO 7 FT. NW SWELL 8 TO 10 FT AND S 3 FT.
.SUN...NW WINDS 10 TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. NW SWELL 8 TO 10 FT AND S 3 FT.

The current forecast for Monterey Bay is:
.FRI...SW WINDS 10 TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. NW SWELL 6 TO 9 FT. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.
.SAT...NW WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 3 TO 5 FT. NW SWELL 6 TO 9 FT.
.SUN...NW WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT. NW SWELL 6 TO 9 FT.

Its just my luck that Monterey Bay will be do-able and I drive an hour and a half FROM Monterey to find un-kayak-able water. Go figure. But who knows...the forecast is constantly changing. I'm just hoping that it changes for the better!

Won't the north end of carmel bay be protected from the NW wind and swell?

7 foot wind waves, plus 10 foot NW swell, plus 3 foot S swell = a very, very good day to fish freshwater.

Now granted, the average is going to be nothing like that. But that forecast looks like it would be a day to be out in an extremely experienced group, focused on skill building. Fuggedabout fishing...

Just my 2¢

Scott
