Rockfish opens Tuesday north of a spot along the Lost Coast, and salmon season opens Saturday the 5th north of a spot near that spot...  The forecasts show some decent water Tuesday - I might hit Trinidad for rockfish and a possible ab dive.  When it gets FAC I'll be changing my schedule and hitting the water.  Company welcome - be ready for short notice if necessary as FAC conditions in Humboldt don't tend to last long!   :smt007

In other Humboldt news...

I just saw the "Mothership" brochure from Humboats - it'll be exciting to see how that goes, participation and fishing success-wise.  Looks good, Hawk!   Call me if you need assistance on a guided trip.  :smt001

and out of Shelter Cove:  I spoke to Lee Self this morning (Lost Coast Landing launch operator), and he gave me good info:  the salmon bite's still slow, water temps are cold, around 49 F, and he noted that most fish were being caught in 50-53 degree water when the bite was good.  Thanks, Lee, for the info!  Since I won't be adding to the coffers of Lost Coast Landing any time soon I think I'll drop off a nicely finished old-growth ab shell and a jar of home made wild blackberry jam for he and Tammy in hopes of fostering an information acquisition relationship!

Good luck tomorrow to the salmon hunters and Tuesday to the rockfish crew down around Monterey.

Rockhopper:  Contact Hawk Martin, AKA "Swellrider" from our board.  I haven't surfed it in a while, but there's likely info on his website too.

PK:  back in the days when we could use 4 shrimpflys and a leadhead you'd get multiple hookups pretty often, and the coolest ones would be multi-special ("spEE-see-ul"?!).  This photo is a different day:  ling under a red...

Well, the south wind is forecast to puff a bit, but I'm planning on going to Trinidad for late afternoon rockfishing to open the season tomorrow.  Blue Silverado on the beach; VHF channel 69 or 68...

ABKING-  Does Trinidad tend to be more mellow than other ares above the 42 mark.  That bay looks like its fairly smooth.  How far out do you go to pick up some lings?

KB:  Trinidad cove is extremely well-protected and consists of about 4 square miles of rockgarden/sandy bottom.  The protection means that the fishing pressure is more though.  Hawk has scored some legal lings in the cove, but I don't have the patience for it!  Wait for a calm day and paddle around the Head to Flat Iron rock and points north of there for chances at better lings.  My goal is to use most of a day to head all the way up to Patrick's Point State Park - hopefully that'll be the abalone/chinook/ling/rockfish combo day...
