Well, I hope I get some of my beginners luck karma going on this next weekend.  That thing would look sweet on my Hobie ;)

I think all prizes should be available for everyone if the contest is NCKA, which officially is not aligned with any manufacturer.

I totally agree.

Tough call.
I am glad to see another prize drummed up for the Derby but at the same time I agree it should not be a 'maunfacturer specific' prize either. Then again another prize is better than one less prize.
I can't decide.

So would you rather have us turn away sponsors that what to contribute prizes? Hobie is donating a lot of stuff to the raffle and they wanted to kick in a special prize for Hobie fishermen. I don't have a problem with that. If you want a prize for your kayak, bug the manufacturers and get them to kick down some stuff.

I'm going to paddle against the current here, and say more power to Hobie. There are plenty of tournaments where manufacturers kick in extra bucks/prizes for those contestants that use that specific manufacturers products. Largemouth Bass and Saltwater Flats boat manufacturers are the ones that spring to mind immediately. Don't drive a Ranger in a tournament, you don't qualify to get Ranger's incentive cash.

Ain't no big thang.
