For anyone who doesn't have a tree, and is planning to go to a tree farm in El Dorado County, here's a tip;
Stop off at the USFS ranger station off Forni Rd and pick up a Christmas tree cutting permit. The permit is $10 and allows you to cut a tree anywhere on the El Dorado National Forest except private property or wilderness.  The limit on size is a 6" diameter trunk at the base.  I got a 12' tree and it was under 6", so don't worry you'd end up with some tiny tree or something.

With the cost of what farms charge these days, I figure I'd just toss that out there.  We went up to Ice House and, of course, I took a rod with me.  Ha!
