Hit the beach at Marina two days ago, in the afternoon. Caught a couple of average sized perch but not worth risking the iphone for any picks. :) The surf itself was pretty active, but was kind of a tea color and loaded with debris. On nearly every cast I was pulling in sea weed and everything else but fish. Not that I am complaining it was still fun to be out there, but it was a real pain in the a**.

I plan on hitting the surf again on Sat with my brother that just got back from Iraq. I am hoping to put him on some decent surf, sans all that sea weed of course and was wondering if anyone else had intel on what the other beaches along the bay currently look like?

Usually it gets browner/dirtier as you move south towards Monterey. But strangely, the brown water is staying between seaside & marina...while it looks clean south of the beach hotel. If driving down from the north, I'd suggest checking Sunset, Zmudowski, or Moss before driving to Marina. And if it's still nasty in marina, consider motoring south towards del monte or casa verde. I'll probably be out there Sat morning.

I am thinking of trying Sunday AM (not sure where yet...) so please report back on conditions if you make it out Saturday?

Thank you!

My stepdad and I had decent luck around Davenport two weekends ago.  Definitely moved up and down the beach to find the holes, but once we found them, it was non-stop for a few hours.

Thanks guys. :) I am actually driving down from Scotts Valley so I am thinking that maybe I will try and stop at a couple of places. I have done well at Manresa before so I will probably try there first. Then if that does not produce start making my way down the coast.

Wherever I end up though, I will definitely leave a report.

Hey all, just a quick report. Ended up hitting the beach at Manresa (the campground not the state beach). Got out there around 3pm.  The water was still a tea color but there was no debris and the surf was perfect. We decided to start with the 2.5" Gulp sandworms and on the 3rd cast my brother hooked in an 18" stripper. Then it went dead for nearly two hours. We did get a couple of solid hits during that time and something was ripping up the sandworms, but we could not seem to stick them. After a while we started catching some surf perch which was fun and ended up keeping a couple.

Anyway, even though we did not catch a ton of fish it was still somewhat productive and a blast as always. :)

Nice!!

I went to a Monterey County beach at first light on Sunday but the waves and swell action were a lot bigger than I was hoping for so decided not to get in...

Headed to another beach, and the waves were calmer but the water was very brown... :smt009

Decided not to suit up, had a beer instead and watched the sunrise alone on the beach and then headed home.

Next time!!

Do kayaker have a similar saying?
