Yeah, they aren't native to the Eel, but they are native to the sac.

The way I see it, the overabundance of Sacramento pikeminnow is just one symptom of a huge underlying water resource management problem. Dams and water diversion create perfect pikeminnow habitat, so of course they're thriving.

Way to go!!!  How did you catch them?  Looks like fun and a good way to help the Steelhead and Salmon.

I bet if we offered a reward/derby prize for them some do gooding California protect the animals and fish or the Dept of Wildlife would introduce a bill to make it illegal to pay a bounty. Oooh ya  they did it for Coyotes already.

Still is a bounty in Ukiah . They pay you for them at the forks market. If I'm not mistaken you bring them in and you pull a ticket that is worth $1 to5$. No more than 10 a day. I did it years a few years ago. Now I just leave them for the wildlife.

From a California sport-fishing-regulations aspect, the Sacramento pikeminnow is regulated under CCR Title 14, section 5.95 (no limit or season), sections 2.25 and 2.30 (bow and arrow and spear fishing) and section 1.87 (no wastage of fish). Therefore, any fishing practice, derby or bounty program in which the Sacramento pikeminnow is wasted is in violation of the regulations and is thus illegal.

In addition, Sacramento squawfish are listed as a "game fish" in commission regulations (CCR Title 14, section 230) and a permit is required before any prizes can be offered to take them. Information regarding applications and permits for fishing contests is available online at  www.dfg.ca.gov/fish/Administration/Permits/FishingContest/index.asp
