I radio license numbers in, and seldom have coms along the coast. So then I call them in on a cell, but if no service, I just write down the dmv# and run it later when at my computer.
Anything you can do, to be inspection ready will help. If you have your shit together, clean area around you, you are fine.
If you have to dig and look for it, trash all around you, it sets the mindset of the warden/cop.
Why would anyone, want to stack the deck against themselves and piss off the cop/warden, by making him/her dance thru hoops to do their job, just because you can, or are too irresponsible to immediately have your license ready?
You may be right. You may be legal. But if they are having a bad day (human) and you tick them off, or inconveniece them, you mayend up with a search or citation you may not have received otherwise.

Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Would be cool if we could get a water proof license like our CDL's. Maybe pay for 5 years at a time. Something with picture. Maybe. Until then it lives in my wallet which when on the water lives in a water proof case in my pfd.
I only fish on days that end with Y

I shirttail relative of mine was pretty high up at DFG he  would be in his 80's now. He was an active warden for years. he told a story of  coming to the beach and approaching 2 men asking for fishing licenses one starts to run he pursues after a long footrace the guy stops bent over panting He grabs him and  says why did you run. Guy says because my friend didnt have a license.......
On a related note my brother is  an avid fisherman and used to fish from shore at the minnow hole in Sacramento. His wife wanted to go one time so he takes her. Fishing with a rod for her and his rod out Warden walks up  says can I see your licenses. My brother ask what fine is higher fishing without a license or fishing with 2 poles. Warden says fishing without a license. My brother says I am fishing with 2 poles.

I always bring my wallet in my dry bag, that way I have my fishing licence and my cdl to prove I am the guy named on the licence...overkill perhaps...

I like this idea of a 5 year license. Yes, it would be costly, but it should be discounted since it saves lots of administration costs.

Just fork out for the lifetime license. Only problem is in California they may outlaw fishing because _________ (insert stupid answers yourself). My stupid answer is it hurts the poor fish. The are already to polluted to eat. or No one  needs a fishing pole for home protection.

And we all know the  State of California will never refund your lifetime license fee once they ban fishing.
