Someone else recently posted that the Bonfare Market at the end of Webster now carries bait, thanks for that info.  Unfortunately their bait is crappy bag anchovies and mackerel.  I went there yesterday and bought some bait and had a nice chat with the owner, Lionel.  I explained the need for good quality "tray bait" and that if they bought it, we'd certainly buy it.  They said they would ask their supplier next week.  So, if you stop by in there ask them for tray bait!!   Crazy that on an island with 70,000 residents we no longer have a tackle shop.

mostly all the places I go fishing, i buy my bait locally before I go. Guess Alameda is not a huge fishing population? you figure central bait used to be  right there next to the fishing ground that you think it would be busy but I hardly see anyone the times i stopped by.

can you post a picture of the squid package? that you buy? the local bait shop here sells around $5 and up to $6 for a small package. it's almost like rip off.

Since you're in Hayward, Check out your local Asian grocery like 99Ranch, Island Pacific, etc, the frozen squid are around $6 or less for a 3lb box.

i used to buy it here next to my asian market but last weekend they didn't have the blue box that i always get. they have a all white box that caused $22.. too expensive and the squid is different color.

Buy frozen 5# box at 99 Ranch, or anywhere with a meat counter, walk over to the butcher and have him zip it into as many small chunks as you want with the band saw.

Last time I did this the guy behind the counter acted like he didn't understand english at all, then I tried motioning what I wanted, still not getting thru so I said thanks and started to walk away, then he says "hey you want me to cut that in half for you?"  we both got a laugh out of it.
