i just moved from Santa Cruz to Marina so now Monterey (MBK) is my default launch location. I've only launched once there during last years MBK tournament but now with rockfish season being over I need a new target. I remember hearing about decent sand dab fishing around Monterey so if anybody can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. I know a halibut isn't totally out of the question right now but I'd like a strong go-to target over winter. Any other easy launch locations in Monterey would also be nice. Thanks everyone. Happy New Year.

Out in front of the harbor or anywhere near the red can out in front of the aquarium;  100-140' of water.  Look for the charter boats.

Go out towards the red mile buoy then paddle 400yds NE and use size 4 glow sabikis tipped with bits of squid...4 to 8oz sinker depending on drift. Be prepared to decend any rockfish that suffer barotrauma (like a shelton or just a paperclip on your swivel) because it's pretty deep out there, like 100-140ft.
Other fish you can target include perch or halibut or striped bass. Or humboldt squid haha...

Have you ever caught a Humboldt squid off a yak? I think that wound be dangerous. You would have to kill them first after you took the shower they give you. I think if you got one on borad alive, you may be missing fingers. or something else.

if you go sandabbing with FM1 in Monterey  -make sure to bring a frozen chicken or two, and troll them slow on a 15' rope--the spot he goes has action!!!
