Looking for any reviews on this fish finder. Looks like a newer model and seems to be priced lower than other Garmins. Another question I have is with the DownVu. If mounted on a Hobie that is Lowrance ready, does the transducer fit and does the plate underneath affect the DownVu?

That is cheap. I'd also like to hear any additional info on that unit...

I am glad someone asked!  This looks like a great price on a kayak sized GPS/FF Combo.

My questions:
1) Fits Hobie Outback that is Lowrance Ready (NoSHow asked this)
2) Is it effective at its Purpose (finding fish/depthfinder)?

I can't find any reviews!
Fish laugh when I paddle by.  Sometimes they laugh so hard they fall on my hook.

Yes, a Garmin transducer can fit in a Hobie transducer pocket with just a bit of fiddling.  Best to find store with both a Lowrance transducer and a Garmin transducer an look at them to decide if you're up to the fiddling-around.

No, the Hobie cover plate does not effect performance of DSI.

Each model of finder, even within the same company, is different; you'll have to try it to see if it's effective for you.

One of the reason for the lower price is the screen size.  Thought it is sold as a '4' series unit which, for most companies means it is 4", the screen is 3.5".  Yes,,1/2" of screen size is noticeable AND affects the retail price a fair amount.  Haven't played with one myself.

That unit comes standard with a dual-beam transducer (77 & 200kHz frequencies)...you have to buy a new/upgrade transducer if you want true quad-beam chirp frequencies (77/200/455/800)....which costs another $100.
I would actually postpone plans to buy a Garmin DownVu FF because they may go down in price, depending how this lawsuit shakes out. http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/News/Garmin-Violates-Navico-Patents/

According to their webpage,

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-water/fishfinders/striker-4dv/prod528816.html

it does come with a down imaging transducer.

Quote
Includes Garmin GT20 transducer with CHIRP (77/200 kHz); transmit power (300 W RMS)/(2,400 peak-to-peak) with 455/800 kHz CHIRP DownVü (300 W power)

Under the "in the box" tab

Quote
GT20-TM transducer

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/prod145793.html

This should give Lowrance Elite 4 CHIRP a run for its money.

Good catch. You are correct, Tim. I was looking at the Striker 4 description, since they mentioned it being inexpensive (and that one's like $119). I'm kinda in the market for a new FF, so I was researching the Garmin finders last week. But I would still hold off on buying a Garmin DownVu unit, personally.
