Quinn,
Believe it or not, you live next to some good brown trout water: Lake Natomas. The bottom is flat and covered with river rocks/cobblestones. It's perfect crawdad habitat, and there are lots of big crayfish in the lake. The browns are eating those. A buddy pulled an eight pounder out of there a number of years ago on a crawdad crankbait. I don't know where in the lake he caught it, but I saw the pictures. I would easily believe there are some toad smallmouth bass in there too. I haven't fished it in years, but remembering it, I'm thinking, "What have I been thinking?"
Another place for large browns used to be Salt Springs Reservoir. When there is snow on the ground, it can be an iffy drive, as the road from Buckhorn Lodge into there wasn't paved last time I went there, but when the water is low,  it's like fishing in a barrel. You can probably check with PG&E about the road and water conditions, as it's their lake. Good luck.
Dan

Thanks Dan! I live in Folsom, so maybe I will go looking for some illusive browns in Natomas. The other lakes are going to be tough due to snow. We are getting rain, and they are getting snow everywhere. I appreciate the tips! Will keep everyone posted on our search for the Moby Brown :)

I'll throw a little more wood on the fire for an Almanor run.  This is from ten days ago.  They'll be easy pickings at least into mid-January.  Three hours from Sac!
One hell of a fish! That lake has been on my bucket list for a few years now. Soon.... Sooon....
