I use a door mat under the bow or stern when lifting the kayak onto the cart. It was starting to grind the plastic when I would turn or drag it on the pavement.

I'm equipped with emergency paddle in the front hatch, bilge pump and sponge in the center hatch, hawg trough, marine radio, inreach satellite messenger and emergency rescue sos. Of course one very important item is my checklist. I go over it at home so I get everything in the truck and I go over it before I launch to make sure everything is in the kayak. One time I forgot to install the yellow rope for my QRAS. Taking the list with me helps prevent that kind of foul up.

I really like my setup. Since I transport and store the kayak stripped of all the gear the biggest negative is time involved in setup and take down. I'm usually on the water an hour after I arrive. Maybe someday I'll figure out how to leave more gear on the kayak permanently.

WST120, How did you mount your Scotty rod holder  to the rail?

Damdan,

Sorry about not responding sooner.

I am attaching two pictures showing the parts. I used a Scotty Deck Mount #241 attached to a Wilderness Systems Slidetrax Universal Mounting Plate (which includes the two mounting screws to lock into the rail), with four stainless steel 1 inch screws with two flat washers and a locking nut (per screw).

Feel free to PM me with any other questions.

Awesome Traildad, I learn something from all you guys. I see the trolly has pretty heavy duty poly rope. I have 50 lb test for my 13 lb weight.I wonder if I am a little weak in the trolly line. I got that line because it was reflective which I thought was cool , I should have learned from high school being cool aint all that. But I am here to learn Thanks you guys

No trolley on mine. I have a QRAS only. I followed the instructions on the site. Search QRAS. A quick release anchor system is important when anchoring in moving water.

I think you might want something a little more robust PLUS ease of grabbing to operate should be considered as well.

I have a Tarpon 100 but its all in the same equilibrium.

Mods so far:

(2) Flushmount rod holders behind the seat
(2) Scotty rod holders on gearheads mounted on the tracks with mighty mounts.
Lowrance Elite-3x DSI mounted on a Scotty Sonar Mount; Lowrance scupper transducer mount
Keeleazy over the skeg and keel. Two trips so far and its holding up (need to take pics)

Just installed the fishfinder and transducer mount and am quite pleased with how far the transducer sits up inside the scupper.

This is a great idea. I might have to take a trip over to Wally World tonight and grab a cheap doormat
