Is that weight a piece of parachute cord with shot stuffed in it?

I saw an old guy on the river two weeks ago and I told him this was my first full year at steelhead fishing. He told me I had conquered half of the battle, as I was not at home watching TV. Since them I've had about 5 or 6 hook-ups, but still haven't landed any. I think I really enjoy the competition between me and the steelhead.

CHEERS!

The weight is made from the parachute cord with lead weight inside. I put a small amount of orange yarn inside the bait loop on the hook. Before I tie the leader onto the swivel, I put a corkie (spelling?) on the line. You can also put some roe in the bait loop...if you have some.

For your slinkies, instead of buying the shot and putting it in the parachute cord. Try puting a piece of pencil lead in it. Seal it with heat, then squeeze it with a pair of dikes every 1/4", but not all the way through.  Then just fold back and forth at the creases until it breaks. The pencil lead is much cheaper, and works just as good...  :smt002
Also. Question about your pic of the rigging. Why do you uniknott the leader section. Why not just knott the spectra to the swivel and the leader off the other end? I assume you just wanted more mono exposed...?

I do it both for flex (stretch) in the line and also in case the swivel gets caught on something. The PowerPro line does not like to break, so the mono is the next weakest link in the chain (if you don't count me).

I have tried a lot of rigs and have found this to be the best for me it doesn't twist and is fast to retie.  12 or 10lb mainline leader 10or 8lb.  I take a brass swivel and wire black tubing to it, side it on the main line and uni knot a Rosco swivel to the end. Egg bumper knot to the hook slide on spin glo tie on a piece of yarn and uni knot to the swivel. Keep it simple use any mainline you feel comfortable with but use Maxima leader its the best. Sorry bout the funky pict I will take some more tomorrow.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
