Hi guys, I'm Zach and recently moved to Carmel with the military.  I fly F-16s for the military and am here to learn Arabic.  I am interested in getting in to kayak fishing.  I was fishing from the rocks and talked to a couple guys that recommended this forum.  Anyone in the area that would be willing to let me tag along for some near shore fishing would be much appreciated!  until I get the hang of it I will be renting my kayak from the presidio.

Welcome, and Thank you for your service. I think you'll get along just fine here.

Welcome!  DLI is close (actually, pretty much already there) to some great fishing. For a fit adrenaline junkie like yourself, maybe spearfishing is a bit more up your alley? Walk in, walk out, less set up, quick dives every night....

I think I would love it but my wife would kill me.  Perhaps after the kids grow up a bit and I'm more expendable :-)  Have always wanted to try that too.  For now just gonna try yak fishing while I'm here.  I'm from Oregon and have a cabin at tenmile lakes on the south/central coast with some good yak fishing close there.  I just need to learn how!

Welcome!  A quick-start method might be to hook up with one of the guide services.  You'll get the kayak basics and a rundown on the gear.

I would love to go out with a guide.  Can you recommend a good one in the Monterrey area? Thanks!
Zach

Hey Zach, welcome to the site! I just saw Bushy's fishing report--not bad for a FNG haha.
I'm down for shorefishing midweek in the afternoons or kayak fishing on the wknds. I posted some links about shore rockfishing in this thread: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=66127
Or if you bass fish, we could hit the lake on campus at NPS...it's like my own private bass pond haha!
