So its time to buy a Kayak. I think I'm leaning towards a Trident 13 or 4.3. I know I want something for ocean and larger Sierra lakes mainly. Even though these Kayaks are around 30" are they fairly stable? I was looking at wider models, but they seem pretty heavy and I don't plan on wanting to stand in it. So assuming I cant find a used one, what shops that carry Ocean Kayaks do you recommend? I plan on adding some accessories, so a shop that does quality work and are fair in terms of price would be good. Any help here would be appreciated. I don't mind driving awhile to get to a shop that knows what they are doing. Thanks!

Both are solid options, used by seasoned veterans and should be plenty stable, but also decent on speed.  Every time I've taken the basic surf and re-entry skills course at MBK I've used their T13's, and they float my :fat just fine :smt044

I don't know the shops in Fresno, but I bet you will have some suggestions soon.  Monterey Bay Kayaks is a ways, but should have both models for you to check out, plus others as well.

I also have the 13 in my shop, Pacific Outfitters in Ukiah.  Always willing to hook up an NCKA member the best I can.  Anything you need, if I don't have it, I'll get it.

Hey thanks for the replies. For mounting fishfinders, etc in center pod, is there any difference between the Trident 13 and 4.3? I thought I read the 4.3 pod occupies a larger space in the deck but I really couldn't tell the difference in looking at pictures.

U may want to check Fisherman's Warehouse  in Fresno.  Eric "Yakhopper", may  have some deals for you.  PM him, it's local.

30" is plenty wide, unless you are too. Wider does not always mean more stable. Talk to Eric at FW in Fresno. I don't know what he is currently carrying right now.

Fishermans warehouse no longer has ocean kayak. Go to adventure sports in sac. Tell them you are ncka. Best deal over that way. The trident 13 is a much better kayak than the 4.3 imo.

I posted up a mini review of the T13 in the Ocean Kayaks section. I'm very happy with it, and I'm 6'1 240 ish right now.

Both good choice but it would come down to your personal weight.
I have the T13 and 240 and great in ocean.
Other is two big for my weight

You are correct. It does take up more space. And it does not go all the way through the the hull of the kayak (to stash your rods below deck) unless you add a hatch inside it.
I highly recommend Eric @ Fishermens Warehouse. But as mentioned, they don't carry Ocean Kayak brand anymore. I know there's a place called Herb Bauer's in Fresno that has kayaks. Also consider checking out centralcoastkayakfishing.com too.

And that is a mighty generous offer!
