Need a seat for my yak.. been looking at the gts seats but their a little pricey.. heard about the apex 1, but want some advice.. is the apex a good seat or would it be better to cough up the extra dough for something like the gts elite? Thanks!

What is your kayak, it might make a difference?

I have the GTS, but the apex price is very attractive, if you buy it for like 90$ and don't like it you have very little to lose. I say go for it. Don't like it? Then you stand to take a $15 loss, unlike the GTS more like 40$ + loss to sell used. My 2cents

I looked at the Apex very closely online, my only reservation is that some of the COD seats have a very small seating pad. Much smaller than my big butt requires, I don't know that this is the case with the seat in question butt look at it in person if that might be an issue for you. Some of their stuff is made for those with tiny asses.

I've also seen people buy stuff like the hot seat along with their seat upgrade.. would you guys recommend that? Don't want to buy extra stuff if not needed..

I have a hot seat thing but the only time i could ever imagine using it would be on a high mountain lake in the dead of a cold winter. And in that case clothing would probably be they better thing to focus on.

I meant something like this for extra cushion-ing.. but I've been thinking about the expedition and hopefully it has enough cushion for my behind.. if not I'll grabore down the line.

For a pre-2009 Tarpon, I'd upgrade the backrest and add some cushion to the seat area.
Like this: http://www.austinkayak.com/products/288/Wilderness-Systems-Tarpon-Backrest-Pad-Pre-2008.html
And this: http://www.austinkayak.com/products/685/Skwoosh-Extreme-Kayak-Seat-Pad-Cushion.html

That was my original plan but when I go out to fish I usually fish for a whole day and I'm just not sure it's enough..

Oh, I see. I have this thing called a hot-seat i can microwave and it stays warm all day.

For a pre-2009 Tarpon, I'd upgrade the backrest and add some cushion to the seat area.

I like Cen Coasts recommendation, $150 is a lot to spend for something with about the same result. I love mine, but it was a gift. And i dont have a Wilderness Systems boat.

I used to be a dealer for both COD and Surf to Summit.  The Apex is a straight knock off but without the quality or longevity  of Surf to Summit.  S2S gear is ridiculously durable.
