Hobie Adventure with my brand new GTT Mirage Drive, which I must say is great. Its so smooth and so quiet almost nothing can hear you coming. :smt002

Wow, landlord bumped a big boat.  I was hoping for yellow Ultra since he realized it was not food ;)

 What?  No Halibut ??
So I guess you're the one that got away this time...   :smt044

Seriously ,,,  I'm really glad for no injuries.    Think maybe that shark was missing a few teeth from a past encounter with a plastic boat?

Seems kind of surprising that a shark would hit such a large object.

Was the water actually as murky as it looks in the video clip? If so, I wonder if that might have had something to do with it. Last Friday, when I launched at the SC harbor (in my Hobie Adventure testing out my brand new GT drive upgrade and sail...), the water was unusually clear.

The first norcal angler hit (Dan) was in a hobie adventure at Bean Hollow. A fully rigged AI has never been hit though. I usually run one outrigger with a small tramp. The unusual profile will hopefully not be confused for a seal. Of course Al says it probably looks like a mother seal and baby seal.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Scott I agree that the Adventure with one outrigger and a tramp definitely changes the profile when viewed from below, but the event of an attack (or any other means of capsizing), how feasible is it to correct the boat and self rescue? Would the outrigger not make correcting the boat much more difficult?  Honest inquiry as I have no experience with them.

Yeah, the tramp might help break up the view from below.  But the outrigger no longer gives me a sense of saftey after the lady last year that was struck in an outrigger canoe.

As far as flipping over the boat.  There are video's on Youtube of people doing it. The outriggers fold in to make it possible.  But if necessary, they are only held with bungee's, so it can be popped off easily.

I think the silhouette is just part of the equation.
These fish interact for various reasons, be it predation (full speed attack), curiosity (slower speed, mouthing of the item), or they could just be irritable that day and feel challenged...its all sides of the same coin to us, but I think to them these attitudes are subtly different.
so, you could have an outrigger canoe that looks nothing like a seal from below, is moving differently, and still gets hit because the shark doesn't know what it is and wants to  investigate it.

I'm pretty sure this particular fish had decided to commit, went into predation mode, then changed its trajectory at the last second when it realized the kayak was not a prey item.
They have some fish smarts, and I don't think they miss by accident very often :smt002

Glad you are OK and did not get dumped. Just watched your vid clip and to see that spooky shadow gliding away just reminds me we are not the top dog on the Big Blue.
