I hear the surfers in Malibu/socal don't get out of the water when there's a shark sighting.  It's just part of the norm.

They get a lot of juvenile sightings down there, socal's like the play pen.....if I see a 16-18' bruiser in a local break I'm hightailing it out of there asap!

During the last 6yrs, 2 surfers have been attacked in that exact same spot. Both Marina locals.

There is a reason we have so many up here. they don't have the seal population that we have. That is why were considered part of the Red Triangle. And the triangle goes further south than when it was first drawn up.

According to the article:

"Seals, which are great white's favorite source of food along the Central Coast, offer a lot more calories than humans."

It's comforting to know that I'd only be a snack, and not a full meal...

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

That's bad news. Maybe if I put on some weight they'll leave me alone...

one of those 2 is my english teachers son!
Give a man a fish and he'll eat a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit on the water all day with a stick in his hand and no fish.

The article also says humans are "shunned" as a food source because they are too bony. That doesn't fit with what else I have heard about sharks like for instance all of the random crap that is found in their stomachs like license plates and mailboxes etc...

If I was a lazy shark.. I would go for a easy prey like humans.  Id hate to chase down my food source instead of going to a market.

I can see a group of sharks getting together and voting, "Nay, to the furless ones. Hear hear,  to the blubber ones! Hizzah hizzah! Jolly good! Fore sooth, hence forth the furless shall be shunned!"

white sharks are known to be kind of selective, but there are always the "curious" types. They mouth an item to check it out. If the item is unfamiliar they get spooked and will often take off...unless they get pissed instead, then they act like a 3day meth binger that heard you make a dirty joke about their mom.

Tiger sharks are much more likely to eat all kinds of things as you describe. They are often more "bullish" in their behavior as well.

But there is not much that compares to a white shark that has made up its mind to go 100% after a prey item.
