I have a 96. What do you guys know about Yakima or Thule Q-locks?

What is best? And is it worth purchasing the cradle that goes on top of the rack that the kayal sits in instead of placing it on the standard cross bars?

Thanks for any info/experiences.. Red    :smt006

The question really is whether or not you want to transport your kayak right side up or flip it over.  If you prefer to flip it over, then you won't need the saddles.  I used to have a Ford Escape with a standard roof rack.  Each trip meant emptying and removing everything from the yak, flipping it over and hoisting it up top.  We sold the Escape and now I use Yakima Q-towers on a Ford Focus and I love them.  I chose not to buy the saddles because the bottom of my Jackson is so flat.  It just sits right on the rack (right side up).  When I get to the water, the fish-finder, seat and a few other accessories are already in place.  More time to fish this way :smt001

I transport my yaks upside-down on the crossbars, instead of using a cradle or j-rack.
Unfortunately, I can't help ya with the rack selection because I don't know much about it. But I do prefer Thule bars over Yakima round bars.

I think that is the main difference, round bars vs square. With the round bars you can have slippage of add on devices like the J saddles. But, I find a little slippage helps align them to the shape of the hull.
