Paul and I fished the swirl Sun. on an incoming tide for one halibut 27". It was caught on live bait which was easy to obtain with a sabiki jig. We were anchored ontop of the swirl.

I always figured the Halibut would hang out at the swirl, it's like a buffet for them.  Way to go.

The swirl is about 1/2 mile in front of Oyster Point. Go between the two poles at the harbor entry-out 1/2 mile-Line yourself up with the tallest building in the "cluster of (3) large buildings". Look for the swirl (Waste Out-let) If you can't see it, You can smell it! Good thing the halibut only spawn there! It's one of the few fish I'll eat out of the bay.

Donald, Thanks for clearing that up. One other question? Waste Out-let means run off from the street right? I hope.

I'd bet it's treated effluent from the wastewater treatment plant.  What's the problem?

Don't worry teh fish and shellfish who live on effuent do jsut fine on it. Come on--what do you think crabs and laobsters eat--fresh live fish? Not likely.

Kz got it correct. It's treated waste water. I ate the halibut last night and it tasted just fine. The swirl also holds strippers and sharks along with alot of bait fish.

A thresher shark was caught by a boater at the swirl last year.

sure....but at the first sign of wind, you might want to start making your way back to the harbor - wind chop can get really bad in the Bay. The good thing is that Harbor is close by and there's always boaters going by in case you need help. Still, it would be best if you go out with a buddy (which I'm sure you'll have no problem hooking with in this board :smt002)
