Couldnt find much on the forum regarding mercury in saltwater fish (ie rockfish, lings, etc)

I found this link: http://www.oehha.ca.gov/fish/nor_cal/2011SFbay.html

But I'm guessing it only reflects fish caught in the sf bay?

Just want to make sure I'm not eating too much fish. Everything in moderation I suppose.

Any insight/eating guidelines would be appreciated !

Thanks DaveW & Sonny.

My question is what is a safe amount of fish to eat per week? Rock fish specifically.

Based on the old thread. Younger and low in the food chain fish are the to go

This Is something I have done a lot of research about because I am young and eat a lot of fish. For men, I wouldn't be too concerned about eating a lot of rockfish - especially blacks and blues and any other species that school and are low on the food chain.

I try to keep lings just over legal size and don't like to keep anything over 30", though I will occasionally but I will label fish appropriately so that I don't eat too much big ling too fast.

Hope that helps

Do some googling on mercury and selenium in fish. There's a great article out there by an MD who says that you'll be fine as long as the fish you eat has higher selenium levels than mercury. The problem with mercury is that it uses up the selenium your nerves need. It also talks about the "safe levels" put out by the FDA, and discusses the studies that went into those "safe level" decisions.
