Though I have a couple kinds of grippers, I never use them. I use my hand, or net or gaff.

Bogas all the way.

Bought the Lucids and didn't like the feel of them. Felt too small in my hand....then Kiel lost 'em.

I've donated a pair of plastic grips to the ocean still attached to an overzealous lingcod.  Never torn a jaw with them though.

Haven't needed them since i got boga grips, but if you want me to see if lucid grips would be a problem i'd be happy to field test them for you, just PM for shipping address. :D

Haha no sale pitch here was just talkin to some one about it wen i had the plastic grips it happened a couple time i never got pictures to. They didnt think the fish had enough force in a roll to break its own jaw.

I have lost s few fish with the plastic grippers and broken a few jaws (no pics).  I prefer to wear a glove on my left hand and grip the fish with my thumb and index knuckle.

I broke a ling's jaw once with the plastic grips & learned my lesson -- have used the lanyard approach ever since if I grip 'em. I don't use the grip much, though.

NCKA Bruddahs,

I started using the plastic grips and about 6 months ago bought the LUCID Grips as they seemed to be a lot cheaper than the Bogas and seemed well made. I now use the grips exclusively for landing all my fish and when bringing up a Ling or any larger side fish as the rotating head really works and saves your hand from having to get beat up. I can usually get the fish on the metal stringer without having to grab the fish very much.
I would never use any other kind of grip again!!!

+1.
Although I'm using bogas, it is the swivel feature of the grips that sets the design of both the boga and lucid design far,far ahead of the plastic "pliers' type of grips.
I can't think of a specific time when I have injured a ling with the plastic grips, but I'm fairly sure it has happened to me in the past.
I retired my plastic grips and use them now only as an aid tool for filleting big spiny fish.

No pics of it, but lings are susceptible to jaw injuries from those plastic lip grippers.
Closest thing to a pic I got is 0:55 in this video when I go to lift a ling w/the plastic grippers. Warning, cheesy old video.
