Took a serious look at Carmel R.S.B., too windy (and cold), went up and launched about 8:30 at pocket beach just to west of Pt. Pinos, where it was FAC, and stayed that way until after noon. Water very clear, dozens of blues chasing everything, but they didn't hit the diamond bar.  A few Olives mixed in.  Went out near the buoy, it's in about 150 fow, trolled floating lure and heavy iron, nothing.  Now and then I'd see a seabird swimming under yak really fast.
Came right up near the rocks in abt 30 fow and was back in them.  Kept a few for dinner, looking for lings, no show.  I kept moving to avoid the blues, but they were everywhere and it was hard to get to the bottom.
Expected weather to worsen for predicted rain, but it couldn't have been a nicer day.
When I pulled in, there was a guy just off the beach in what I thought was another green prowler, but it turned out to be a rubber raft with a kayak paddle and he was handlining.

thanks for the report!

a few weeks ago sackyak and I went out of coral street and there was a guy in a green inflatable with a kayak paddle.  Handled the surf landing well considering a growing swell that day.  Wonder if its the same guy?

Probably.  I wouldn't be too surprised to see someone in those inside kelp beds fishing from a log raft, given the flimsy things I've seen people go out in, like a tin row boat with one paddle and two guys.   And you know, if you can't or won't scrape up the dough for another paddle or a set of oars you're sure not going to spend it on life jackets!

I am envious of your weekday fishing trips and I am guessing it was the same guy.  I have seen him several times at Coral St.

Thanks for the report, FT!

Sounds like a good day, indeed. The dude in the inflatable is crazy. Saw 4 guys in an inflatable out of Coral St a couple times this summer. Hope these guys are wearing PFDs...or at least those orange arm floaties.

Dude . .I've seen those same 4 guys a bunch of times, too!   There's also a regular float-tuber at Otter Cove.  The craziest thing I EVER saw along those lines had not to do with fishing ..  but there was a guy sitting on a paddleboard with no lifejacket or wetsuit who paddled out and back through the jaws at Moss last March.
Fishing is cool

I guess the paddleboarder's theory was that it doesn't make much sense to wear a life jacket if your going to die from hypothermia anyway.
